If you think about fashion, a really good outfit has multiple elements that make it a well put together outfit. A good outfit takes layers, striking colors and accessories. So why not bring this into you home décor and what a better way to do it then to play with
patterns and textures. It is a major design trend to work with patterns to define any space.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when working with patterns and textures in your home.
1.) Start off with a jumping point such as larger patterned fabric that can be considered to be the base/starting point. This pattern will be the more predominate one and may be the one used the most in the space. Choose a pattern you love for this will set the overall theme.
2.) Designers always like to work with odd numbers so, this is a good rule of thumb to follow when selecting the amount of patterns to work with. So for example when selecting the amount of patterns you are going to work with select three or possibly five.
3.) When selecting the second pattern select a pattern at a much smaller scale then the first selected pattern. With this second pattern select a pattern that will pull and accent color found in the larger scale pattern so the fabrics relate to each other.
4.) For the third pattern, introduce a new color that does not exist in any of the other patterns but is complimentary to the colors you are working with. Need a little help? Refer to the trusty and reliable color wheel for a color that will contrast and compliment
When working with pattern and textures always think of color, texture scale and contrast this will almost guarantee a fool proof color scheme.
